Quiz Night 2015 Save Our Brine Baths

This is the latest report from SOBBS. We are holding a series of fund raising activities this year, the first of which was our hugely successful Quiz evening which was held at St. Andrew’s Town Hotel, courtesy of Aidan Stevens, on Friday, 16th January. Over 80 people came to show their support for the reinstatement of a Brine Bath for Droitwich. We raised over £600 and would like to say a really big ‘Thank you’ to the traders of Droitwich who feel as we do, that we need to put the Spa back into the town! They donated some fabulous raffle prizes for which we are very grateful indeed. Attached is a photograph of the winning team being presented with their very comprehensive hamper of ‘goodies’!

Our next fund raising activity is a Wine Tasting evening, again at St. Andrew’s Town Hotel, on Friday, 20th February at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available from 01905 77487101905 774871 or 01905 77633401905 776334. It should be a terrific evening and as an optional extra, St. Andrew’s are offering an ‘Early Bird’ supper between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. It would be lovely to see a ‘full house’!

Please note that fund raising accounts can be viewed on request contact.

Fundraising began in earnest in September 2013 on Salt Day when members of SOBBS sporting SOBBS tee shirts manned a table in Salt Barrow Market with a bucket to attract funds from the public. At the same time we tried to elicit help from the public with fund raising ideas. Many ideas were forthcoming which were both innovative and helpful. Our stall displayed old photographs of the Brine Baths in their “glory” days, leaflets to be distributed to the public as well as a large television, kindly loaned by Brown & Fincher on which we ran a historical video of the Brine Baths.

Jane McCann had gone to great lengths to produce a short play which was a huge success and which was acted out in costume, taking place at the top of the High Street just in front of St. andrews Church. Do take a look at it!  It is certainly worth it!

All in all, the day was a great success (helped by the weather of course) and we raised in excess of £282.00.

Apart from this, we have held various jumble sales from which further monies have been raised, our next one being Friday 15th August. Contributions will be gratefully  received and can be taken down to the Old Library from 1.00 pm. We are very thankful for all the donations we have received including one from the ladies of Whitbourne who held a coffee morning and raised £75.00 For our cause.

A very successful Quiz evening was held, courtesy of Aidan Stevens of St. Andrews Town Hotel at which we raised well over £500.00. A good evening was enjoyed by everyone and we have had requests to do another one. In fact we were forced to turn people away as we simply couldn’t accommodate them. Our raffle prizes were very good indeed and these were generously provided by traders from the town.

SOBBS maintained a presence in the town on St. Richard’s Day, collecting a small amount of money but once again, many people wanted to add their names to the Supporters’ List – this is very heartening indeed.

We are now hoping that Waitrose will support our cause and naturally we will be out in force on Salt Day 2014.
